1 ) How do I prepare for IIT ?
Ans : – See the videos made by me ( in youtube search as Dezrina or “ Zookeeper Physics “ – will see all Uploaded ones. Though we have many more which have not been uploaded ). While
watching the videos, take notes and try to solve the problems yourself by pausing the video. Tell me if any calculation is wrong. See the videos with 1- first then 2- and so on. Write to IAPT

2 ) Which codec and Player do I use to see the videos ?
Ans : – You can use GOM Player, or VLC Player. You have to have good speakers with filters or good earphones with filters. We have checked mostly it is OK with these. ( If you are depending only on your embedded speakers of computer /screen / keyboard then there may be extra distortions. As these speakers are often not of good Quality. Also install latest KL Codecs ) In any case reduce the volume see the board, imagine sitting in the last bench and solving the problems of your own. See if your solution differs anywhere with the scribbles on the board.
3 ) Why are you giving these ( high Quality ) lecture for free ?
Ans : Well there are lot of good things free in this world. Linux, My-SQL, Open-Office ….. Go to sourceforge and get thousands of high quality software free along with source code. Yes all officially free …. Why do you think Richard Stallman, Zimmerman, ….. etc are considered Guru philosophers ? In Punjab and Gurudwaras worldwide there are so many Langars where you get better food than Restaurants. … why ? Why do you have Dharmasalas and subsidized rest rooms near hospitals / Famous Temples / various places ? in Iftar party anyone can eat for free …
why ? I am teaching for 20 years now and observed most students can do much better if they have the self motivation to solve and practice. Cheap books are available in second hand bookstalls, where you get thousands of Numericals to solve ….. but most students will like to blow their time going and coming for tuition, travel time …. TV for hours and hours watching cricket /
Tennis games, playing computer games …. My free lectures are not going to make much difference in spending of unnecessary money for coaching ….. I know very well , how much people enjoy ..

Ans : – Apart from my lectures there are approx 700 GB of PCM ( Phy, Chem, Math ) lectures. It takes approx 3 years of continuous download from scattered sources. I have ( 20,000 )Thousands of these. You can take ALL of them from me in an external 1 TB hard disk, instead of spending so much money and time again for downloading. These cover ( by Various Professors ) everything of Chemistry, Physics, Maths… Lot of this is from outside India … as foreigners have much wider heart than Indians ( as most of GNU / open source software have been developed by Non-Indians ). 9 ) Why did you write an article saying there are No Poor students ?
Ans :- There are lots of NGOs and others working for rural / poor children education at lower classes. While very less effort is on for std 9 till 12. Also see the answer in question number ( 3 ) above. In last 20 years of teaching I never met a Poor child who was seriously interested in ( higher ) studies. As I have a mind / thinking of a ” Physicist “, I go by ” Experimental Observation “.
It is not about what is being said about poor in media / TV etc, or ” what it should be ” ( ? ) …. It is about what I see happening. Also to add ( confuse ? you more )…. You must be knowing that in several states over many years now girl students have better ( by marks as well as by pass percentage ) result in std 10 / Board Exams….. well but NEVER a girl student came FIRST in IIT JEE … why ?

11 ) What is EAMCET ?
Ans :- Engineering Agriculture and Medicine Common Entrance Test is conducted by JNT University Hyderabad on behalf of APSCHE. This examination is the gateway for entry into various professional courses offered in Government/Private Colleges in Andhra Pradesh.

13 ) What is SCRA ?
Ans : – Special Class Railway Apprentice (SCRA) exam is conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) board, for about 10 seats.That translates into an astonishing ratio of 1 selection per 10,000 applicants. The SCRA scheme was started in 1927 by the British, to select a handful of most intelligent Indians to assist them in their Railway Operations, after training at their Railway’s largest workshop, i.e. Jamalpur Workshop, and for one year in United Kingdom. The selected candidates were required to appear in the Mechanical Engineering Degree Examination held by Engineering Council (London).

1 ) Explain the applications of Quality Cost with a suitable example
The Cost of Quality (“COQ”) measurement can track changes over time for one particular process, or be used as a benchmark for comparison of two or more different processes (eg. two
machines, different production lines, sister plants, two competitor companies, etc.).
After confirming that the data is accurate and comprehensive, and consistent with previous definitions and implementations, it is analyzed for opportunities and trends. Based upon statistical
analysis (eg. regression analysis, indexes, correlations, Pareto analysis, factor analysis, etc.), conclusions and recommendations are presented to managers of the process being analyzed.
In some cases (supported by process modeling, heuristics, prior experience, or intuition) the optimum Cost of Quality (“COQ”) can be predicted, and the process design necessary for achieving
this global optimum Cost of Quality (“COQ”) can be defined. A plan can then be defined to modify the current process, phase by phase, so as to move towards this global optimum process.
The cost of Quality has been defines as
A – Prevention cost
B – Appraisal cost
C – Failure Cost
Prevention costs – This is the cost involved for avoiding defects. To prevent mistakes from happening such as implementation of standards, staff training, costs involved in setting up of Quality
Appraisal costs – Cost of detecting defects. Costd incurred to look for mistakes before it is released.
Failure Costs – Costs incurred due to re-work, overtime, loss of business and maintenance.
Internal COQ – Costs associated with internal losses (ie. within the process being analyzed) [off-cuts, equipment breakdowns, spills, scrap, yield, productivity ]
External COQ – Costs external the process being analyzed (ie. occur outside, not within). These costs are usually discovered by, or affect third parties (eg. customers). Some External costs
may have originated from within, or been caused, created by, or made worse by the process being analyzed. They are defined as External because of where they were discovered, or who is
primarily or initially affected. [customer complaints, latent defects found by the customer, warranty ]
Preventive COQ – Costs associated with the prevention of future losses: (eg. unplanned or undesired problems, losses, lost opportunities, breakdowns, work stoppages, waste, etc.) [planning,
mistake-proofing, scheduled maintenance, quality assurance ]
Assessment COQ – Costs associated with measurement and assessment of the process. [KPI’s, inspection, quality check, dock audits, third party audits, measuring devices, reporting systems,
data collection systems, forms ]
The different types of Benchmarking are as follows
Strategic Benchmarking is used to improve overall performance by examining the long-term strategies and approaches that have enabled great performers to succeed. It involves considering
core competencies, developing new products and services. Changing the balance of activities; and improving capabilities for dealing with changes in the background environment.
Competitive Benchmarking is used when organizations consider their positions in relation to performance characteristics of vital products and services. Benchmarking partners are drawn from
the same segment.
Process Benchmarking is used when the focus is on improving detailed critical processes and operations. Partners are sought from best practice organizations that do similar work or deliver
Functional Benchmarking is used when organizations look to benchmark with partners from different business areas of activity in order to find ways of improving like functions or work processes.
Internal Benchmarking seeks partners from within the same organization. The main advantages of internal benchmarking are that sensitive data and information is more accessible, general data
is readily available, and less time and resources are needed.
External Benchmarking seeks outside organizations that are known to be best in their field. External benchmarking provides the chance to learn from those who are known to be best in class,
although it is important to remember that not every best practice solution can be adopted by others.
International Benchmarking seeks partners from other countries because the best organizations are located in other parts of the world or there are too few benchmarking partners within the
same country to produce valid results.
There can be more which are specific to an Industry while the above are the general ones.
3 ) Explain the objectives of Quality circles
The objective of quality circle is to bring about improvement in quality of a product or service by forming groups and using the ideas and thoughts of the group.
Quality Circles were pioneered by Japanese. ( also known as SGA = Small Group Activity )
 Reduce error and enhance quality
 Improve morale of workers, supervisors, ( closer identity of employee expectations and organization expectations )
 Inspire more effective teamwork
 Improve productivity
 Promote job involvement
 Reduce downtime of machine and equipment

4 ) Write an essay on ISO 9000 and 14000 Quality Standards
In 1946 delegates from 25 countries met in London and decided to create ISO. ( towards International co-operation and unification of standards ) From 1947 ISO started operations in Geneva.
Subsequently ISO became world’s largest developer and publisher of International standards. Presently more than 160 countries have representations in ISO. ISO national members pay
subscriptions. The membership is voluntary, democratic, market driven, consensus driven, There are more than 3000 technical bodies, and more than 200 Technical committees. ISO earns also
by selling the standards. It has more than 17500 standards.
The activities are huge. On average more than 8 meetings related to ISO is happening somewhere or other.
Standards ensure desirable characteristics of products and services such as quality , environmental friendliness, safety, reliability, efficiency and interchangeability, keeping the cost at check.
Makes the development, manufacturing and supply of products and services more efficient, safer and cleaner. Facilitate trade between countries and make it fairer. Provide governments with a
technical base for health, safety and environmental legislation and conformity assessment
Share technological advancement and good management practise
Dissemination of Innovation. Safeguard consumers and users in general for products and services
ISO standards provide Technological , economic and social benefits for businesses, innovators, customers, governments, trade officials, developing countries, consumers and general people.
About ISO 9000
In 1987 quality system 1SO 9001, 9002, and 9003 manufacturing standards were published. ( At the same time European version of Quality standard EN2900i, EN29002, EN29003, BS 5750
3parts were published.
ISO 9001:2000 This revised version has only one certification standard namely : ISO 9001:2000. The other two ISO 9002 and ISO 9003 have been withdrawn. Two guiding standards ISO
9000:2000 and ISO 9004:2000 are available for use as “guiding standards”.
ISO 9000 refers to a generic series of standards published by the ISO that provide quality assurance requirements and quality management guidance. ISO 9000 is a quality system standard,
not a technical product standard. The ISO 9000 series currently contains four standards – ISO 9001, ISO 9002, ISO 9003 and ISO 9004. Firms select the standard that is most relevant to
their business activities. However, these four standards will be revised in late 2000. More information is provided later in this paper under ISO 9000:2000.
The eight principles adopted are titled as follows : Customer focused organization, Leadership, involvement of people, process approach, Systems approach to management, continual
improvement, Factual approach to decision making and mutually beneficial supplier relationship. These principles are expressed throughout the standard in each of its “clauses”.
ISO 14000 refers to a series of standards on environmental management tools and systems. ISO 14000 deals with a company’s system for managing its day-to-day operations and how they
impact the environment. The Environmental Management System and Environmental Auditing address a wide range of issues to include the following:
Top management commitment to continuous improvement, compliance, and pollution prevention.
Creating and implementing environmental policies, including setting and meeting appropriate targets.
Integrating environmental considerations in operating procedures.
Training employees in regard to their environmental obligations.
Conducting audits of the environmental management system.
ISO 9000 and ISO 14000 are tools to assist business and government to insure the quality of their products and services, and to manage the impact of their activities on the environment. Like
all ISO standards, their use is voluntary unless a business sector makes them a market requirement or a government issues regulations making their use obligatory. Organizations that
implement ISO 9000 and ISO 14000 voluntarily do so to improve operations and provide real benefits.
5 ) What are the benefits of CE Marking? Does a product require a CE marking?
The EU introduced the CE marking scheme to make trade easier and cheaper between EU countries. It means that a manufacturer claims that their product conforms to the minimum legal
requirements for health and safety as laid down in EU directives.
Often customers will look for CE marking on a product as an indication of conformance to laid down minimum standards, and therefore a minimum level of quality that other products may lack.
CE marking is a declaration by the manufacturer that the product meets all the appropriate provisions of the relevant legislation implementing certain European Directives. CE marking gives
companies easier access into the European market to sell their products without adaptation or rechecking. The initials “CE” do not stand for any specific words but are a declaration by the
manufacturer that his product meets the requirements of the applicable European Directive(s).
The European Union introduced a series of measures to simplify the movement of goods throughout the European Union (EU) and the European Free Trade Area (EFTA). Some of these
measures are known as New Approach Directives. New Approach Directives provide controls on product design and above all, seek to harmonize product safety requirements across Europe.
The directives cover a very wide range of product areas including toys, medical devices and pressure equipment. Their primary objective is to ensure that the products are well designed, and
safe for the user.
Throughout Europe, where a New Approach Directive is in force, it is necessary for the manufacturer to CE mark their product. CE marking requirements vary from Directive to Directive, and
even within Directives.
Third-party testing, systems assessment and technical file assessments can be mandatory, but sometimes the manufacturer’s unverified claim is all that’s asked for. But beware! If you claim
your product complies and it doesn’t, you will be prosecuted. Where a Directive requires products and/or systems to be independently tested, certified, or inspected, this must be done by a
“Notified Body” or “Competent Body”.
The Kitemark is a voluntary, independent third-party mark that offers peace of mind for both the consumer and the specifier.
To achieve Kitemark certification requires a manufacturer to have a comprehensive quality management system, based on ISO 9001:2000 or recognised factory production control system
combined with initial product type testing and regular audit testing. Once achieved the Kitemark can serve as an enhanced marketing tool in a competitive market, by demonstrating an ongoing
commitment to quality and safety.
CE Marking is most probably required if you export to the 27 European Union ( EU ) and 3 European Free Trade Association ( EFTA ) member states the following 20 groups of products –

Appliances Burning Gaseous Fuels (AppliGas), Cableway Installations to Carry Persons, Low Voltage Electrical Equipment, Construction Products, Equipment and Protective Systems for Used in
Potentially Explosive Atmospheres (Atex), Explosives for Civil Uses, Hot Water Boilers, Lift, Machinery, Measuring Instruments, Medical Devices, Active Implantable Medical Devices, In Vitro
Diagnostic Medical Devices, Non-automatic Weighing Instruments, Radio Equipment & Telecommunications Terminal Equipment (R&TTE), Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Simple Pressure
Vessels, Pressure Equipment, Recreational Craft, Toys
The CE marking applies to products placed in the market or put into service in the European Economic Area, and only for certain product groups or product aspects. Thus in order to answer the
question whether a product needs to be CE certified, one has to determine first in which countries the products are going to be placed in the market or used. Secondly, for each single directive it
must be determined whether the products, or some of its aspects, falls within its scope.
The CE Marking Is Required Only in the Countries of the European Economic Area (EEA):
[Although Switzerland is member of the EFTA, it does not take part in the EEA. Turkey is neither member of the EU, nor is considered a part of the EEA. However, Turkey has fully implemented
many of the European CE marking directives. This means that for many products they also require CE Marking. ]
The CE marking is NOT required for the following products:
6 ) What is Inspection? Explain its different aspects
Checking ( Critical Apprisal ) that involves examination, measurement, testing, gauging, comparison and others tests of materials and items are known as Inspection.
An inspection determines if the material or item is in proper quantity and condition, and if it conforms to the applicable or specified requirements. Inspection is generally divided into three
categories: (1) Receiving inspection, (2) In-process inspection, and (3) Final inspection. In quality control (which is guided by the principle that “Quality cannot be inspected into a product”) the
role of inspection is to verify and validate the variance data, it does not involve separating the good from the bad.
3 categories of defects
Some defects are much worse than others. Three categories are typically distinguished:
Critical defects might harm a user or cause a whole shipment to be blocked by the customs.
Major defects are not accepted by most consumers, who decide not to buy the product.
Minor defects also represent a departure from specifications, but some consumers would still buy the product.
Inspections can be :
Announced : in writing informing the operator at least ( say for example ) 48 hours in advance
scheduled : programmed as part of an annual or multi-year planning process ; according to national priorities and regional issues
Unannounced : the inspector arrives on site without initially informing the operator.
In order to adapt the inspection to the context of the installation, it can be :
Occasional : unplanned within the inspection program and initiated by an event which was difficult to foresee (complaint, request from a third party, consequence of a formal notice to comply,
accident, closure of activity etc.).
Targeted : the objective of the inspection is to analyse one or several parameters or workshops of the classified installation
General : the inspection will review all operating conditions and compliance with prefectural operational requirements.
Depending on the level of detail expected, the inspection can be :
in-depth : site monitoring requiring detailed preparation ;
