Management Studies consists largely ( at a macro level ) of the following subjects …

1 ) Marketing – Research findings, approaches, concepts, learning’s…

2 ) Finance – DCF ( Discounted Cash flow ), Options and Stocks, Depreciation, Hedging, various learning’s and concepts

3 ) OB ( Organizational Behavior ) and Psychology – How and why people behave the way they do.

4 ) Economics – At Macro and Micro level how various things are being influenced.

5 ) Industrial Law – Various Laws and Rights. The Historical reasons and benefits behind these Laws.

6 ) Accountancy – How transactions are recorded at various parts of the world. How they vary. How much of it is Automated and how much is left to ingenuity and imaginative tweaking.

7 ) Leadership Styles and Strategy – Scenario Planning, Future Analysis, Risk Analysis, Strategy Approaches, balances such as Balanced Score cards etc.

Obviously there are lots and lots of details and specialized sub-subjects in each of these. Huge body of experience and data already has got accumulated for every small and narrow specialization.

As per one of the ” most common Human Folly “, Most People continue to feel that all these detailed study is not required. Intuitively and by ” Gut feeling ” they can take the best decisions.

It becomes extremely important for people who study the Management Subjects in Detail, are able to demonstrate to others the extra value it brings in when the Theory / Learning’s are applied compared to Intuitive / Gut Feeling decisions. Those with an MBA degree but unable to sell this extra value or to prove that the decisions that they are taking / recommending are better than the ” Knee jerk reactions ” are not going very far.
